The practice nurses treat minor ailments and injuries, dress wounds, remove
stitches, syringe ears, give injections, take blood tests, take cervical smears
and give advice. They also run a number of clinics e.g. for blood pressure,
asthma and diabetes.
Attached staff, i.e. district nurses, health visitors, midwives and
chiropodists are employed by the health authority and work closely with the
practice staff.
Health visitors
Health visitors are available for advice on health care and health provision
for all age groups and families, both at the surgery and in the community. They
run child health clinics, and give advice on health care to expectant mothers,
small children, the elderly and the handicapped.
Community midwives
Midwives provide both ante and postnatal advice and care in the community.
They run antenatal clinics and work closely with the health visitors.
Community psychiatric nurses
The community psychiatric nurses are available to counsel patients who
require their special nursing skills.
Chiropodists
We have a visiting chiropodist who provides services for elderly and diabetic
patients who have a medical need for their services.
